YOUR SMILE IS PRECIOUS!

DO YOU STILL BELIEVE THAT THE TOOTH FAIRY EXISTS?
DO YOU STILL EXPECT TO FIND A PENNY BENEATH
YOUR PILLOW?

BECAUSE HONESTLY,

"FORGET ABOUT THE BROKEN ONES,THINK ABOUT WHAT'S LEFT"

IT IS OFTEN SAID THAT YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION HAPPENS TO BE YOUR LAST IMPRESSION.
THE WAY YOU PRESENT YOURSELF IS VERY IMPORTANT IN TODAY'S GENERATION.AND THE VERY FIRST THING THAT POPS IN OUR MIND WHEN WE TALK ABOUT OUR IMAGE IS OUR SMILE.

EVERYONE DREAMS OF HAVING A PERFECT COLGATE SMILE,BUT HOW MANY OF US ACTUALLY WORK ON ACHIEVING IT? HARDLY ANYONE.
FORGET ACHIEVING IT BUT MANY OF US DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP OUR TEETH AS WELL AS OUR MOUTH HEALTHY AND FRESH.AND THAT IS WHY IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE OURSELVES AND OTHER ABOUT "ORAL HEALTH AND HYGIENE".

STATED BELOW ARE FEW QUESTIONS THAT WE USUALLY COME ACROSS WITH RESPECT TO "O.H.H"

 WHAT DOES ORAL HYGIENE MEAN?

It is the state or practice of keeping the mouth cavity in a healthy condition as by a
regular program of brushing and
flossing the  teeth combined with periodic
examinations by a dentist.

WHAT IS GOOD ORAL HYGIENE?

Good oral hygiene results in a mouth that looks and smells healthy. This means:
  • Your teeth are clean and free of debris
  • Gums are pink and do not hurt or bleed when you brush or floss
  • Bad breath is not a constant problem

If your gums do hurt or bleed while brushing or flossing, or you are experiencing persistent bad breath, see your dentist. Any of these conditions may indicate a problem.
Your dentist or hygienist can help you learn good oral hygiene techniques and can help point out areas of your mouth that may require extra attention during brushing and flossing.

HOW IS ORAL HYGIENE PRACTICED?

Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well-being.
Daily preventive care, including proper brushing and flossing, will help stop problems before they develop and is much less painful, expensive, and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress.
In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems.

      These include:

  • Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
  • Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
  • Rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse if your dentist tells you to
  • Making sure that your children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in a non-fluoridated area.

HOW WILL POOR DENTAL CARE AFFECT OUR OVERALL HEALTH?

Although you probably understand that poor dental care can lead to cavities, did you know that other, more serious health problems can also result from poor oral care? The truth is that if you don't take proper care of your teeth, you could face far more serious consequences than a simple toothache or some unsightly stainS.

  • Cardiovascular disease: In a nutshell, this means heart disease. The bacteria from inflammation of the gums and periodontal disease can enter your bloodstream and travel to the arteries in the heart and cause atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Atherosclerosis causes plaque to develop on the inner walls of arteries which thicken and this decreases or may block blood flow through the body. This can cause an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. The inner lining of the heart can also become infected and inflamed  a condition known as endocarditis.
  • Dementia: The bacteria from gingivitis may enter the brain through either nerve channels in the head or through the bloodstream, that might even lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Respiratory infections: The Journal of Periodontology warns that gum disease could cause you to get infections in your lungs, including pneumonia. While the connection might not be completely obvious at first, think of what might happen from breathing in bacteria from infected teeth and gums over a long period of time.
  • Diabetic complications: Inflammation of the gum tissue and periodontal disease can make it harder to control your blood sugar and make your diabetes symptoms worse. Diabetes sufferers are also more susceptible to periodontal disease, making proper dental care even more important for those with this disease.

WHAT ARE THE PROPER BRUSHING AND FLOSSING TECHNIQUE?

Proper brushing technique

  brush1         brush2 brush3

 inside and chewing
surface of each tooth using short
back-and-forth strokes.

leaving an inch or two
 to work with.
